On Neil Warnock: “I think it’s seven promotions that he’s had, which is a fantastic achievement. He’s taken charge of so many games so he’s really experienced. He’s done a wonderful job there because, let’s not forget, Middlesbrough were in a similar position to us last year.
“If we’re saying that we’ve done a real good job then Neil’s done exactly the same. They are a bit more experienced at this level with more resources to do well and this level, but to turn it around like Neil has, he’s done a fantastic job and we know it’s going to be a really difficult game, regardless of what team Neil takes charge of.”
Who?
Middlesbrough have enjoyed the majority of their trophy success in the last 25 years, after they were first runners-up in the FA Cup in 1997, before winning the League Cup in 2004 after beating Bolton Wanderers.
Boro gained promotion into the Premier League in 2016 with a second place finish, but were relegated the following season, with this being their four successive campaign in the Championship.
The Manager – Neil Warnock
Neil Warnock is a well-known name in the game following over 40 years in the football management business. He has achieved promotion with several clubs throughout his career and following a three-year spell with Cardiff City which ended in 2019, he has since taken Middlesbrough to ninth position in the table and they could yet still finish as high as seventh this season.
Main Threat – Duncan Watmore
Duncan Watmore joined Boro in November 2020 and made an instant impression following his release from Sunderland that summer. He has since signed a long-term contract at the club, a reward for being their top scorer so far this season with eight goals to his name.
When and where?
Kick-off is 3pm at Kenilworth Road on Saturday 1st May.
Man in the middle?
The referee for Saturday’s fixture is Jeremy Simpson, who last took charge of the Hatters in the 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest.
Played before?
The two sides met in December and the Hatters were unfortunate to be on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline, particularly when James Collins’ penalty was ruled out after he kicked the ball twice.
The last meeting at Kenilworth Road was the opening day of last season’s Sky Bet Championship, where the two contested an entertaining 3-3 draw. You can watch highlights from the match down below…
