A win would give the Town a strong opportunity of moving further clear of second place and fourth, with Notts County heading to Lincoln City, Exeter City welcoming Coventry City and Wycombe playing Colchester, all of whom occupy a place in the eight positions below the Hatters.
Chesterfield have changed manager this term, appointing club legend Jack Lester after Gary Caldwell departed. The 42-year-old played 219 times for the Spireites, netting an impressive 94 goals during his six year stay at the Proact Stadium.
He appeared to have turned their fortunes around as they went on an unbeaten run of six games between the end of October and the beginning of December, but having only picked up one point in their last six games, they now find themselves in 23rd place – two points off safety.
THE GAFFER SAYS:
On Chesterfield: "They're actually a dangerous side, they got some good players and they've got a big squad. They've got a lot of talent in their squad – when you look at the amount of players they signed in the summer, you thought 'these are going to give it a go'.
"It hasn't quite worked out like that, but we can't affect that. All we can affect is ourselves. It's a big month for us in terms of league form, and we started January very well. We want to continue that – it's a big month, we've got some big games. There's some big games elsewhere as well at the weekend, sides are playing each other, so we have got to make sure we take advantage."
On Scott Cuthbert's recovery from groin surgery: "He's making good progress. It's been a difficult one for him because he was in such fine form and the team were in such fine form. Then he does that, it sets him back, but it was good news when we saw the specialist last time that it won't be as long. He's chomping at the bit, it's just we've got to make sure he comes back safely and healthy."
WHO?
Tomorrow's hosts have bounced between League One and Two now for over 50 years, with their last spell in the third tier lasting three years before they finished bottom of the pile last season. It could have been a completely different story however, as Chesterfield reached the League One play-offs in 2015, only to be beaten 4-0 by Preston North End over two legs.

Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday 13th January at the Proact Stadium.
