On Mick McCarthy: “Someone like Mick with great experience and the way he gets around players, I had no doubt he was going to make an impact. Great appointment from Cardiff, my hometown club, great appointment for them and I’m very pleased because I like Mick.

“Mick is one of the good guys, he’s honest, very respectful in the things he does and he has old-school respect in terms of his manners, the way he does stuff, how he speaks about other managers, his conduct, everything.”

Who?

Cardiff City hold the record for being the only team outside of England to win the FA Cup, which they were victorious in 1927. They have since been runners-up twice, most recently in 2008 when they were beaten by Portsmouth.

The Bluebirds were relegated from the Premier League in 2019 and made the play-offs last season but lost to Fulham in the semi-final.

The Manager – Mick McCarthy

The former Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Wolves manager succeeded Neil Harris on January 22nd and in the five games he has managed so far, the Bluebirds are yet to lose.

McCarthy, 61, has overseen a remarkable run of form including three wins in their last three matches and will hope his side can force themselves into play-off contenders towards the end of the season.

Main threat – Kieffer Moore

Kieffer Moore joined Cardiff in the summer transfer window from Wigan Athletic, following their relegation to League One.

Moore has already bettered his goal tally of ten from last season, scoring 13 thus far including one against the Hatters in November.

When and where?

Kick-off is 8:15pm at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday 16th February.

Man in the middle?

The referee for Tuesday’s fixture is Tim Robinson – who most recently took charge of the Hatters in the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in October.

Played before?

The Town will be looking for revenge following the 4-0 defeat at the Cardiff City Stadium in November.
