Town earned a win and a draw against Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town respectively prior to the two-week break, and another victory tomorrow could move them up into the play-off places.

Blackburn meanwhile sit in 12th position and will hope to extend their two-match unbeaten run with a positive result.

On Blackburn: “They’re an ex-Premier League side that are established at Championship level, have been at that level and are probably one of the favourites to get promoted.

“They are a very good side, some real good players and we want to be similar to those in terms of the competitive levels, what they are able to do and who they are able to attract and so on.

“We’re competing on a good level, just above them in the league so we’re showing that we are competing at this point, that we are able to maintain our levels against teams like this, week-in, week-out.

“They’re a fantastic side, real good footballers, fluent side, they can hurt you. We saw that in terms of at the end of the season but we have strengths of our own that we have to make sure are right at it, if they are right at it, it should be a good game.”

On the challenge of the Championship: “It’s a difficult league and I think it’s very even. You don’t ever look at results and go ‘wow didn’t see that one coming’ because you do. It’s so competitive, it really is.

“Starting to take shape you would think after 11 games but it’s strange because of no fans, it’s strange because of the quickness of games, then you’ve got internationals and so on, but it will start to even out.”

Blackburn famously won the Premier League in 1995, which ended their 81-year run without an English league title, after pipping Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United by one point.

The Manager – Tony Mowbray

Tony Mowbray accumulated over 500 appearances as a senior professional, turning out for Middlesbrough, Celtic and Ipswich Town.

His managerial career began in 2004 with Hibernian. After two years in Scotland, Mowbray was appointed as West Brom manager – whom he helped guide to the Premier League and an FA Cup semi-final.

Celtic followed his time at the Hawthorns in 2009 but he was sacked after less than a year, later joining Middlesbrough afterwards.

Since moving to Ewood Park in 2017, Mowbray has overseen promotion to the Championship, and respective 15th and 11th place finishes.

Main threat – Adam Armstrong

Adam Armstrong amassed 17 goals for Blackburn last season and is already nearing that feat this term, with 12 already to his name.

He spent up until 2018 with Newcastle, although for the most part, he was out on loan. After impressing at Coventry City, he later joined Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers and then Blackburn, which was a loan that turned permanent in 2018.

Armstrong had plenty of pedigree as a young player, representing England at every youth level.

The referee for Saturday’s fixture is Gavin Ward – who refereed the Hatters five times last season, most recently in the 0-0 draw against Wigan Athletic in March.

Played before?

Town were victorious against Blackburn both home and away last season – memorably beating Rovers on the final day 3-2 to secure their Championship status for another campaign.
