With only five league games left it’s a tight contest at the top and the ladies are pushing for a second placed finish.
A month ago, the points were shared away to Bedfordshire rivals Bedford ladies, where the Hatters twice threw away the lead. Captain Jess McKay and Leyah Maddix were the scorers, along with an own goal and the score finished 3-3.
The ladies then travelled to St Ives and came away 5-2 winners after controlling the game well. McKay grabbed another two goals, and Maddix one, with top goal scorer Olivia Abraham and Nicola Henman adding the others.
Another point was then picked up at home against Haringey, a disappointing result after the Hatters were once again leading twice. Leyah Maddix was again on the score sheet, along with Fiona Constable and Shanice Thompson.
The ladies then bowed out of the league cup, losing 2-1 to Needham Market, Constable with the only goal.
With five games left, it’s the six league draws that have proved costly where points have been lost.
However manager Nikki Baker is still targeting a top two finish.
“In recent weeks too many draws have cost us points but we are still in with a chance of finishing second," said Baker. "It will take a good winning run, but we are now 12 league games unbeaten, having not lost since September.
"We are disappointed we haven’t been able to challenge for the league title after a very poor start to the season but we have recovered it well. We are looking forward to trying to finding as far up the league table as we can, and then look to rebuild for next season.”
The ladies are still looking to add players to the senior squads, if you are interested please email lutontownlfc@hotmail.co.uk.
