KAZENGA LUALUA | "WE ARE ALL TOGETHER IN THIS AND WE ARE FIGHTING UNTIL THE END"

Hatters forward Kazenga LuaLua was delighted to score the winner in yesterday’s 1-0 win against Hull but admitted three points was the most important.

His 85th minute strike from distance led to jubilant scenes with the players and staff embracing, then hanging on to secure a vital victory that leaves the Hatters level on points with Charlton Athletic, and up a place into 22nd.

Personally, LuaLua has found himself frustrated after he missed the first five games after the Championship restart through injury, but he has come off the bench in the last three matches, yesterday to great effect.

“Since we got back from the lockdown it has been hard for me because I had a little knee issue. Thank god I have managed to recover so I can try and help the boys but it’s frustrating not playing the games and with my myself because I wanted to be fit to try and help the team, but these things happen.

“I’m fit now and trying to help the team. It has been hard for me personally but it’s a team game, you can be angry and all of this, but the team comes first. The most important thing for me was we got three points, it doesn’t matter who scores.”

LuaLua entered the fray with 20 minutes to go and like usual, was creative from the get go. He produced a number of darting runs forward and provided George Moncur with an opportunity, before firing the Town ahead with five minutes to go.

“We were desperate to score so there was only thing on my mind when I had the ball. I thought to myself I’m just going to try and make something for the team, shoot, hoping for the best, score and I was happy the ball went into the back of the net, it was really nice!”

Scoring from 20-yards is by no means an easy feat and Kaz explained how the most important thing for him to do was hit the target.

“Sometimes you can rush it and then the ball is going to end up in the stand. It’s about connection, when you feel you got a good connection, the keeper can make a save and I could tap it in. Make sure you hit the target, that’s the most important.”

The Hatters conclude their Sky Bet Championship campaign on Wednesday night against Blackburn Rovers with the hope of remaining in the division.

The players will look to take their confidence back to Kenilworth Road, as LuaLua added: “It’s a team effort, we are all together in this and we are fighting until the end so it was nice to celebrate with the boys, really nice.”
