INIGO IDIAKEZ ON WIN OVER ORIENT AND PUSHING FOR A SPOT IN THE TOP SIX

Town's Professional Development Phase Lead Coach Inigo Idiakez was delighted with his side's response on Saturday as they bounced back from a defeat against Northampton Town with a 5-2 victory over Leyton Orient.

The Cobblers' 2-1 win over the Hatters last Tuesday saw Idiakez's team lose for only the second time in nine games, with the resounding victory over the O's giving the Hatters a decent chance of finishing in the top six of the EFL Youth Alliance South East Division, should they win this Saturday against Barnet at Ely Way.

Idiakez said: "Last Tuesday we were quite disappointed with the loss against Northampton. The first half was brilliant again from the boys – we had two great chances, one-against-one. But the second half was quite poor and we didn't get the result.

"The reaction though was brilliant on Saturday. That's the first time they have scored five with me in charge. It was brilliant for everyone.

"We are still in with a chance to qualify for the top six, so we will do our homework. Hopefully we win the game on Saturday and then we wait on a couple of results elsewhere."

The win over Orient was the Town's eighth in their last ten games, with Idiakez pleased with the way his side create chances, as well as an ability to come from behind to win, which they managed in Saturday's game having been a goal down.

"We've been talking about it, we create a lot of chances because of the way we play and the amount we create is actually quite impressive," Idiakez continued. "I think against Orient we created 17 chances – that's not bad. We were quite clinical in the final third, the boys did really well.

"It's a good thing for the team, from time-to-time when we go a goal down. They react as a team and they do really well in that aspect of the game, which I am really pleased with.

"We were 1-0 down on Saturday, but I thought we were outplaying them. We have been working hard on our approach and it showed."

Youth team defender Jack James recently joined Hitchin Town on loan, and although the Canaries' fixture at the weekend was abandoned, Idiakez hopes to see the soon-to-be 18-year-old prove himself in men's football.

"He has been playing well, he has been training with the first team," he added.

"So this loan spell will give us the opportunity to see how he gets on in men's football, not just academy games. He has to be fit and strong physically and mentally, so I think it's a good thing for him to go there."
