The 25-year-old put in another solid performance against Scunthorpe at the weekend to make it two wins in as many games.
Although the Hatters saw the game out this week to extend their unbeaten run at home to six matches in the league, Pearson was slightly disheartened to concede another late goal even though it turned out to be a consolation.
Speaking to iFollow Hatters after Saturday's match, he said: “I was disappointed towards the end because we conceded that late goal but thankfully it didn’t matter. I’m just buzzing to get the three points against a good team.”
The centre-half was one of the stand out players in a Luton shirt last Saturday, battling right to the end for every header, loose ball and even mounting the counter attack, pinging the ball out to the forwards. Pearson led the defensive line well too, soaking up any pressure to make sure that all three points would be remaining in Bedfordshire.
He continued: “There were periods in the second half where I felt like they were on top. That’s where we had to dig in and I thought all of us rode it out really well. That’s where you win and lose games sometimes. If they’re on top and score two or three goals, that can put you out of the game but thankfully, we rode it and hit them on the counter and that third goal made us win the game.
“Sometimes you’ve got to soak up the pressure, it’s always going to happen in games and I felt like they had a long period of pressure on us. It’s nice to get through them bits of pressure and deal with it. It’s also good to get the ball and be able to give it to players like Harry Cornick and JJ. They’re that fast it just gets you out of trouble instantly and that’s what we want. It’s brilliant to have them sort of players who can release the pressure so quickly.”
The last-minute equaliser Charlton scored feels like a distant memory after this week, recording not only the Town’s first away win of the season but that feeling of last-minute glory the Hatters fans were on the receiving end of last week. Pearson is hoping to build on the good run of form going forward.
He said: “That’s the beauty of Saturday-Tuesday, it turns around quick. Saturday, we conceded late and then Tuesday we score late, it’s all swings and roundabouts but it’s been a good week. Back to back wins propel you up the league, if we do it again next Saturday, anything can happen.”
Although Saturday's encounter with Barnsley may sound like a heated grudge match on paper for Pearson, the centre half’s attention is firmly focussed on getting another three points on the board and labelling it as ‘just another league game’, despite still knowing almost all the squad.
He added: “I’m looking forward to it but it’s just another game you’ve got to get your head on. I don’t have to prove a point to anyone. I’m here, I’m playing well, and I’ve just got to keep my head on the game and try and win it.
“I know practically the whole team, they haven’t changed many faces. It will be good to see them but hopefully we can get the result we want. I’m happy to go back, I’ve got a few mates up there but hopefully they have an off day and we come away with the three points”.
