The centre-half continues to function as a vital cog in this Luton machine that has now gone 16 matches unbeaten - the club’s longest run in the Football League in 50 years.
His magic hat must be well and truly stuck on his head by now as the Town number six admitted after the match that there is no better combination than a winning goal and a clean sheet away from home.
Speaking at Roots Hall on Saturday, Pearson said: “It’s a fantastic win, that’s what we all wanted and it’s a great feeling. I’m buzzing with the clean sheet. That’s what you play football for as a defender and a 1-0 away win is better than anything really.
“To get the goal was a nice extra. JJ’s delivery was spot on and me and Sonny have been getting on the end of a few. We’re still waiting for Sonny’s goal and I’m sure it’ll come, but I was there at the right place and right time and it’s gone in.”
The ex-Barnsley defender keeps popping up with key goals this season, earning eight points from a possible 12 in the matches he’s converted. But this is just one of many components to Pearson’s game plan, which makes him such an essential asset to the team.
He continued: “I’ve always had a little thing for getting goals, I don’t know what it is, but I just seem to sometimes be in the right place at the right time or get on the end of crosses. It’s part of wanting to win and wanting to score goals. That’s your job and I’m just glad I’m doing that.”
The victory meant everything to the Town fans who haven’t experienced life at the top of the third tier for 13 years, yet it meant slightly more to Pearson, who had experienced a difficult week off the field with his father being admitted to hospital. To end the week a match winner, heading home in front of a packed out away end did raise the defender’s spirits though.
He added: “My dad went to hospital on Thursday morning, but he seems to be alright now. I missed all the training this week, but it makes it all sweeter with a goal now. It couldn’t be any better could it? A bit of positive news, so I’m glad it’s ended like this today.”
