The 27-year-old scored 13 goals last season, his highest haul during his professional career and he has ambitions to help the team achieve their goals once again this term.
Following a 39-day break from the play-off semi-final defeat against Huddersfield Town, Cornick said: “It is always nice to come back. It has been a lovely little break with friends and family, now it’s nice to come back to work and see everyone, ask how they’ve been, if they had a nice summer.
“It was obviously a hard day for the players and the fans because we worked so hard all year to get to that position and it didn’t work out for us. It was a tough day, took a few weeks to get over it, not over it yet completely because you still feel gutted about it but we have a great chance this season.”
Pre-season is notorious for being a gruelling few weeks as the players gear up for another 46 Championship matches, but Cornick set the pace early on, recording the fastest one kilometre run.
“I felt good. It is nice to come back and do well in the tests knowing that you’ve worked hard on your holidays, you’ve done your runs in the off season and you’ve come back looking strong. I think all the boys put in some good times so everyone has been working hard getting ready for the season ahead.”
One face that has been extremely familiar to Harry during his time at the club was Danny Hylton’s, a player who will be missing at The Brache for pre-season after he made a permanent switch to League Two side Northampton Town.
“Danny was unbelievable for me personally when I first joined, Cornick stated. “I joined as a boy almost and he showed me a few tricks of the trade, a few of his nasty streaks along the way and helped me to progress. He has been such a good person to learn off, to be with everyday and he puts a smile on everyone’s faces.
“Northampton have got a great player and a great person which is the main thing with Danny. He is an unbelievable player for us throughout the seasons, scored so many goals and he was an even better person. He was one to light up the changing room up every day, always joking, always having a laugh so I’m going to miss him a lot.”
Finally he commented on the fixture release and the opening day match against Birmingham City.
“It is a great fixture for us. We lost 5-0 to them at home and 3-0 away, they probably looked at us and thought how did we make the play-offs because they battered us both games, so it’s time to right a few wrongs from last season and put in some performances.
“First day of the season is always a tough one but we know we have to start well if we want to do as well as we did last year or even better.”
