The Town have nine games to overturn a six point gap between themselves in 23rd and Hull City in 21st in the second tier.
Prior to the fixture postponement until at least April 3rd, Town were in a rich vein of form, picking up the fifth highest points total (11) from their last six games out of all the sides in the Championship.
Jones said: “I know six points we have to make up, we feel like we can. If you look at the form guide, we’re right up there. You’re talking about three wins, two draws and one defeat in our last six, four wins, two draws and three defeats in our last eight.
“If we repeat that between now and the end of the season we’ll be safe, so current form suggests that we’re going to do it, not based on an opinion, based on facts. We’re ready for that if we need to go down that route, as a club we’re ready, that’s why we’ve been in training, that’s another reason.
“But we’ll have to wait and see, that’s a question for Gary and the authorities and the chief executives and the governing bodies, even government level. I’m getting updates from Gary and the club every single day, just one day at a time at the minute.
“It’s a normal working week at the minute, in Monday, Tuesday, off Wednesday, in Thursday, Friday, as we stand, but it’s so fluid, it changed from Friday to Monday, and I’m sure it’s going to change from Monday to Friday of this week, I’m just waiting to be updated.
“I haven’t left Championship preparation, I think it would be wrong of me, I’m totally interested in keeping up our physical levels at the minute, for health reasons first and competitive reasons second, and I haven’t looked that far ahead. I think that would be remiss of me.”
With EURO 2020 now postponed until 2021, the manager believes it’s a sensible decision, and could help future international tournaments.
“If we're talking about Euro 2020, I know what it’s like for the top players, the top players get two weeks off and then they go for another 50 weeks. So I think it was the sensible decision to take, because really you're looking back to back tournaments as in Euros and then the World Cup, but on this occasion, the Qatar World Cup was planned for December, for the winter. So it actually gives them a summer to play with to an extent where normally it would be back to back tournaments.
“I think it was the sensible decision, it still gives us at the minute time to finish domestic seasons, but I don’t think anybody has got a crystal ball in front of them and knows where this virus is going to go, how long it’s going to exist for, how incapacitated we will be with it.
“It’s like everywhere else, we’re all second guessing, but at least they’ve made a slot now if the season is extended, that there is that possibility, but how long is a piece of string?”
