Born in Watford, Gordon came to Kenilworth Road as a 17 year old and worked his way up through the ranks before making his League debut at Rotherham in Division Two (now the Championship) in December 1962.

Over the next five years Gordon gave his all for the team, which was tumbling down the divisions, turning out in several different positions and netting some vital goals along the way. Inside forward was probably his best position but he played many games in defence – a true utility player.

In March 1967, with the Town struggling in the basement division, Gillingham from a League higher paid their record fee to take him to Priestfield and he then went on to make over 300 League appearances over the next ten years in a career that also took in Charlton, Orient, Northampton and Brentford.

A minor counties cricketer of note, Gordon was latterly President of Langleybury CC.
