Having played on loan for both Blackpool and Swindon in Sky Bet League One whilst with Liverpool, the centre-half believes he knows the third tier well enough to push for that place.
He said: "I'm looking to play regularly, that's why I came here, especially for this season. I've played in League One a few times, so I know the league well as it's the league I've played in most. So that's why I'm here, to play.
"When I came in January I knew the situation, especially with promotion. Centre half is not a weak position, it's a main position and you need experience there and the club was on a promotion push so I knew what was happening. But like I said, I came for this season.
"I spoke to Nathan Jones before we got promoted about playing and he kept me assured of the plan that they have for me, so I'm just going to keep at it."
Jones featured in the squad who beat Bedford Town 2-0 last night, with the Hatters lining up with a mix of pros and Under-18s – the 22-year-old helping the Hatters keep their second consecutive clean sheet of pre-season.
"As long as I can keep playing football and get in as many 90 minutes as I can then I am not going to complain," he continued.
"Obviously, I have had limited time through injury and coming here with the squad being last strong last year. But as long as I'm getting 90 minutes in, I can prove to the manager that I'm ready to play in the league.
"It doesn't make a difference to me who I play with, I'm used to having new partnerships. If I'm with Alan Sheehan and Sonny Bradley or teaching the younger ones, it doesn't bother me."
With the Hatters' last pre-season game over, full attention now turns to Portsmouth on Saturday. As the excitement builds to see how the Town will perform on the opening day, Jones, along with a lot of the first team players stay well-grounded on what they expect from the new season.
He added: "I've really enjoyed pre-season because it has been a mixture of football and running. I feel in really good condition, I feel motivated and have no injuries. Portsmouth will be a tough game but all these games are going to be tough, but I think we have prepared as much as we can and we have trained as well as we can.
"The squad is really strong, and I think we know what we want to do but we've just been promoted and I don't think you can really guess on things like that [where the Hatters will finish this campaign]. You never know in this league, look at Plymouth last year, they were bottom then went on that amazing run and finished seventh, so we'll keep strong whatever happens."
