In a remarkable six-minute turnaround, the Hatters came from a goal down to win, sending Kenilworth Road into a frenzy.

Now up to 20th position in the league, Moncur was full of praise for the rest of his team-mates, saying: “I thought the three points were definitely deserved, all the boys done so well and I’m so happy with the goal and for the team, hopefully we can take that into Tuesday’s game.”

He continued on his team-mates, adding: “It is such a good set of lads in the changing room and we’ve got a great team spirit. I think that’s what we had last year massively, which got us through and got us the title, now we’ve got some great new lads who have come in over the summer. We all get on really well which is what we need as a team.”

Discussing his individual contribution, Moncur – who came on in the 60th minute – produced a goal that will no doubt remain with Hatters supporters for some time.

On his injury-time finish, the midfielder admitted: “It sort of reminded me of the Portsmouth goal quite a lot because it was right at the end, I think this one was a bit later actually. The ball fell lovely to be fair, I just managed to not panic and slot it in the far corner.”

The 26-year-old was shown a yellow card for his jubilant celebrations, though that was the last thing on his mind, stating: “I tried to run the clock down a little bit and also get my GPS miles up on the monitor, because I haven’t really played in a while and needed to get them in!”

The ex-West Ham youngster did have a few presentable chances fall his way during the 30 minutes he played, including a number of promising free-kick positions – which after some of his strikes last season, supporters had become accustomed to see the ball flying into the top corner.

However, Moncur confessed: “To be fair, I’ve been in a cold with them a little bit (free-kicks) because I haven’t really played that much and I need to get back on the practice field and do them a lot because I used to do it all the time!”

The midfielder hasn’t featured in the league since the 3-0 loss to Hull City in September but holds no grudges, as he explains: “It’s just football, it’s the way it is. I love the manager and I love what he’s done here. He’s been superb and even though I haven’t played, he has always spoke to me, which is good.

“It is always nice to know you are part of the team even though you haven’t been playing so fair play to him, he’s doing a really good job.”
