Oli Lynch gave Luton the lead before Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile replied for Preston. The away side then took the lead on the stroke of half-time before Millar Matthews-Lewis responded with a close range header in added time. The decisive goal, however, was scored by Kian Best who found the top corner from 25 yards.

It was a valiant effort from Alan McCormack's side, who became the first Luton side to reach this stage of the competition since 2016.
