Welcome to Luton Town, Carlton! How does it feel to be a Luton player?

“I’m really excited to get started.

“I have played at Kenilworth Road a few times and it is never an easy place to go. I am happy to be on this side of it now because I want to be at a place where I know I’m confident with the squad that the gaffer is building. This is going to a place where no Championship club wants to come next season.

“It is important we make it a fortress like it has been over the years and get as many points as we can at home. I’m excited to get started with an experienced squad, I know a lot of faces here as well so it should be quite a seamless transition for me.”

“We know you have spoken to your friend Harry Cornick about the move, have you picked his brains about what it’s like to play for Luton?

“Of course! It is going to require a lot of hard work, staying focused with tactics and those are things I pride myself on. It is nothing I’m not capable of and after speaking with Harry last season, he loves the place and I love that boy, so whatever he likes I’m going to like as well!”

What did the gaffer say to you during your conversations, did he have to say much to sell the move?

“I was sold pretty easily. He’s very passionate and I really like him as a character as well, which is important because it’s good to like the people you’re working with as it makes for a better working relationship and it breeds success. He has said about how successful teams have happy and welcoming dressing rooms, and I have found that to be the case as well in my career. It wasn’t a hard sale at all.”

We’re sure Corns has explained a lot about the team spirit and good character is a massive focus for Nathan Jones in a player…

“In my experience it is the same. The most successful teams I have been a part of have always had that core belief of having a stable and happy dressing room. It is about having good people who will get their head down, they are humble, they will work hard and that is what I’m about.

“I’ve never bought into the cliché of being like some footballers with big, expensive cars and a bit arrogant. It is about leaving your ego at the door when you come to training and matches. I know from people that I have spoken to already that it is one of those dressing rooms.”

You’ve had plenty of experience in the Championship with Norwich, Rotherham United and Barnsley, so how does it feel to be back in the division?

“Firstly I’m hugely grateful for the opportunity to come back to the Championship. I really want to challenge myself, I don’t just want to coast through my career. Football is a short game and I have to put myself to the test. I’m incredibly excited for the season ahead, I think Luton fans and us as a team will be really excited at the prospects of what the season can bring.”

The last time you played at Kenilworth Road you scored, but for our fans that don’t know what you’re all about, what kind of player can they expect?

“First and foremost, regardless of performance the work rate will be there 110 per cent, week in, week out. I am always going to leave it all out there on the pitch but in terms of what I aim to bring to the team this season, goals, assists and excitement - and help the team win most importantly.”

Harry Cornick, Elijah Adebayo, Cameron Jerome, Admiral Muskwe, Carlos Mendes Gomes and, of course, your old strike partner Cauley Woodrow make up an exciting strike force this season. How excited are you to work with them?

“The prospect of playing with Cauley again was another attraction coming to the club. Last season it didn’t really work out because we were both out of the team with injuries at separate times, but I hope we can re-spark that fire because we have a lot of good chemistry.

"I saw Eli last season, he’s an excellent player and I’m really looking forward to working with him. Me and Cornick have a certain chemistry already built up with our friendship, so I’m looking forward to seeing how that transpires on the pitch.”

You are linking up with several familiar faces too…

"At this point in my career, you know a lot of players at different clubs and Luton is like that for me. I know Pelly, James Bree, Cam Jerome, Corns, Cauley - so there are a lot of familiar faces which is always helpful. I’ve crossed paths with a lot of the lads and hopefully that will help me hit the ground running even quicker.”
