ELLIOT LEE | "WE KNOW WHAT WE'RE CAPABLE OF AND WE KNOW HOW FAR WE CAN GO"

Town striker Elliot Lee is hoping that the hard work the squad has put in throughout pre-season and his versatility will help spur the Hatters on to another successful campaign after last season's promotion from Sky Bet League Two.

A goal and an assist from the forward in Saturday's victory against Notts County has the 23-year-old confident that the squad are more than capable of dealing with life back in League One.

Lee's attacking flair caused County problems on the day – the opening goal came about when he ran at the Magpies' defence before setting up Jorge Grant who finished nicely.

The second came from a Sheehan corner, when Lee managed to bundle the ball over the line in a goal mouth scramble. It may not have been as delightful as his older brother's effort against Cambridge last season, but they all count.

He said: "Pre-season has been tough. But I've been pleased with where I am fitness wise and it's great to grab an assist and a goal. We've put in a good performance against Notts County and we're all really proud of it so bring on next week at Portsmouth.

"We're setting our standards high. We're not setting a goal for instance, but we know what we're capable of and we know how far we can go. We're just going to keep pushing every game, train hard and hopefully keep getting those wins."

The forward has been transformed over the course of last season from a striker to an attacking midfielder, which has only demonstrated his adaptability. He doesn't mind where he plays though, as he believes he can be a threat from any position.

He said: "It's nice to be at the top of the diamond. Obviously, I finished there last season and you're much more involved in the game. I still see myself as a striker, but I know I can play in the number 10 role and I know I can play on the left so it's just another string to my bow, and at the moment I am really enjoying it."This season will also see a bit of a change for the former West Ham United man, who begins the new campaign without his older brother Olly playing alongside him. The forward only wants to see his brother do well though, who completed his move to Hearts in the Scottish Premier League earlier on in the summer. He added: "It's a massive shame to see Olly move on, I loved playing with my brother and he loved playing with me so it's a massive shame to see him go."But sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do in football, but I wish him nothing but success at Hearts in his new adventure and I'm sure he'll smash it up there. I know how good a player he is and I'm sure he will do very well there this season."
