The 26-year-old entered the fray on the hour mark replacing the injured Matty Pearson, but fortunately, Daniels was ready for the challenge and made his mark on the game almost immediately.
The defender was full of praise for his team-mates on the night, saying: “I felt like the boys, even before I came on the pitch, the boys were incredible. They showed exactly what the fans and the gaffer and all of us had been asking of each other.
“They were strong, they ran hard, they passed the ball well and I was happy to come on and contribute as much as I could. Obviously I was frustrated with the deflection (for Wayne Rooney’s goal) but I tried to block the ball as that’s my job.
“But then going up the other end and contributing with a goal, that’s an extra and I was happy to be on the pitch and I was happy to contribute as much as I could.”
His goal came in the 73rd minute and put the Hatters 2-1 ahead at the time, a moment that Daniels was fully prepared for.
“I’ve been analysing the set-plays so I knew exactly what I needed to do,” the defender continued. “The ball was really good by James, he’s been putting in some really good balls but I just watched it all the way and timed my jump really well and luckily I got a good contact on it.”
His goal was in the making, however little had gone into celebration planning as Daniels revealed: “All the boys were saying run to the corner but I was just so full with emotion and happiness I didn’t know where to run!
“I was just happy to contribute in a positive way to get the three points that were desperately needed. But as I said even before I came on, I was really proud of the boys because they worked really hard.”
There was plenty of fight and resilience on show from the Hatters as they came from a goal down to win.
“We’ve put our heads together and there is a real togetherness, there is a real belief amongst the group which has been pushed by the gaffer and pushed by the coaching staff and we’ve set the standard in training and we just have to continue it in games.
"As you’ve seen, the first 45 minutes, 60 minutes, even after they scored we had the ball, we passed the ball well and we have the quality to contribute to this league in any way we want to do and we just have to keep doing it.”
