Development squad edge seven-goal thriller

The Town development squad earned a 4-3 win at Gillingham on Tuesday afternoon in a match coach Adrian Forbes described as a “basketball game”.

After falling a goal behind against the run of play to an experienced Gills side, the Hatters twice came from behind thanks to two goals from one of two trialists involved at Priestfield.

Jayden Luker and Jake Burger were then on target to ensure Forbes’ side came out on top in the best of seven goals.

Forbes said: “It was end-to-end; we attacked, they attacked but we played well, passed the ball nicely and scored some nice goals.

“It was a great exercise for the players, especially against a Gillingham team who included senior pros who have been involved in their matches in League Two this season.

“While I was disappointed with the goals we conceded – we could have prevented all of them – it was a very rewarding performance for us knowing this is a group who we want to push towards first team, and ultimately Premier League, football.”

Town: Trialist, Francis-Clarke, Kayibanda, Johnson, Pinnington, Luker, Watson, Burger, Newton, Trialist, McAtee. Subs: Horlick, Matthews-Lewis, Heron, Allen, Piesold, Lynch.
