The unfortunate injury occurred when O'Kane burst forward for the Hatters and came off second best in a fair challenge, marring the result, as the midfielder will now miss out on the rest of the season.
Speaking after Saturday's victory, Potts said: "It doesn't look good, obviously we had it with Luke Berry, in context not too long ago. It's unfortunate.
"From a defender's point of view, I don't think there was any malice there. He had to go for the ball and had to go for the tackle and obviously Eunan has come off a lot worse. It's obviously a shame because we were on a break, but it looks a bad one so I'm sure he'll be in safe hands tonight and get the best possible treatment.
"I feel a bit sorry for him really, he hasn't had the best of luck since he's been here, and we've only had him for a couple of weeks but from what I've seen in training he's obviously a real talent, you've seen what he's done in his career and he'll be a big miss."
On a more positive note, the defender was pleased to have won the game and keep the Hatters' unbeaten start at Kenilworth Road alive.
He continued: "I think that's massive staying unbeaten at home, especially in this league. The away games are tougher, you come away from the away games with a point or three, you are content or happy either way it goes but you want to be winning your home games. I think we've been strong all four games here and long may it continue.
"I think first half probably, we were as good as we've played all year really. If you look at some of the away games, we've had good 45-minute displays, especially second half. Looking at Portsmouth away and Doncaster away last Saturday, we've had good spells in halves where we probably haven't come away with the score line we would have wanted.
"To go in at 0-0 at halftime, probably beggar belief because we should have been leading. I think we showed a different side to us second half, something that has probably been missing the last few weeks in terms of when we have got the goal. We've got the first goal for starters, but we've kept onto it, kept the clean sheet and won the game."
The 24-year-old also had nothing but praise for his team-mate Andrew Shinnie, who scored his first goal in almost a year for the Hatters, sealing the win against Gas.
He added: "It's a great finish. I'm good mates with Shins, I drive in with Shins, he's a great lad. He gives his all for the team, but he has got that bit of quality as well, and he showed that with the goal and hopefully there's more to come from him.
"He's the same player if he's in the team, if he's not in the team, on the training pitch, he's the same Shins, you know what you're going to get from him. I think that's probably why the manger can rely on putting him back in because you know what you're going to get from him, he's chipped in with a goal today so that's an added bonus as well."
