Dan Potts | "Goals change games"

Defender Dan Potts felt naivety cost the team as West Bromwich Albion came from two goals down to win at Kenilworth Road.

The Hatters raced ahead with two goals from Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo in the opening 10 minutes, before the Baggies pulled a goal back before half-time.

For the fourth league match in succession, West Brom found a way to win with two quick-fire goals after the hour mark, condemning Rob Edwards’ side to a first defeat in five matches.

“It was the dream start,” Potts said in his post-match press conference. “Two-nil and we probably felt we could have been three or four goals up and out of sight. We started how we wanted to start, got a great goal through Carlton and then a set-piece, but to be fair to them, they’re a good side, they came into the game and goals change games – that was the difference in the end.

“After we scored the second we had chances to score a third and fourth, we had chances to put the game to bed. If you go two-nil up later on in the game, you kill the game, but you can’t be doing that with 80 minutes to go. It was a bit of naivety on our part because there was so much of the game to go. They had a couple of half-chances as well so it was pretty even after we went two-nil up in terms of chances.”

He continued: “When you’re winning two-nil at home, you shouldn’t really be losing 3-2.I don’t care who it is. We’ve beaten top teams in this league – Norwich, QPR, big names, big teams but it’s no different today. They have good players but so have we and when you’re two-nil up, albeit early in the game, I think we should be coming away with something.”

On a personal note, it was the five successive match for Potts after he suffered a fractured back against Blackpool in November.

“When I did it, I knew something had happened. We didn’t know what it was at the start, then we had the [World Cup] break. The positive side to the injury was once it had healed, there is no rehab with it, as long as you can maintain the pain, I had another scan and it looked like it had healed a little bit so it was just about pain management.

“For me at the moment it’s just about trying to manage the pain, that is the good thing with the fractures. Bad thing is you don’t know how long it can take to heal but luckily it was only five weeks. Fingers crossed it’s all good now.

“I’ve been through worse! Couple of painkillers, the medical and physio team are good and I’m doing everything I can to play the next game.”
