The Blades moved eight points ahead of the Town with last night’s 1-0 win over Bristol City, with both clubs having played 42 matches. A win tonight could see the gap back down to five points ahead of the Yorkshire side’s FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City, as well as moving another huge step closer to securing a play-off spot.
“We’re in a good place,” said Woodrow, who scored the second goal in the 2-0 win at Rotherham on Saturday. “We’re ten unbeaten now, third in the league, pushing for that second spot if it’s possible, and then if not, the play-offs after that. So everyone’s really happy and looking forward to the last four games.
“It doesn’t feel unusual to us, as we’re in it and we’re winning. Since the manager took over, we had a goal, and our goal was to get promoted and be where we are at the minute. So for us it feels pretty normal and we’re just taking every game as it comes and trying to get the wins, and that’s what we’ve been doing.
“We’re putting pressure on them (Sheffield United) and that’s all we can do. We know they’re a few points ahead of us, but it’s not out of reach until it’s mathematically impossible, so we’re going to keep pushing and performances have shown what we’re aiming for.”
On the game at the Select Car Leasing Stadium against the Royals, who are fighting for their Championship survival having suffered a six-point deduction last month, the 28-year-old added: “Every game in this division is tough. They’re struggling, they had a points deduction as well, but we’ll just focus on ourselves like we do every single game.
“We’re going to go there to get the win. It will be a tough game, but we’re in a good place, we’re playing well and I’m sure we can put on a performance and if we do that we’ll have more than enough to win the game.”
Asked about his second goal of the season, where he steered home the rebound having seen his initial penalty saved by Rotherham keeper Josh Vickers, Woodrow couldn’t hide his delight.
“He saved it, but I got a bit of luck, it came back to me, and when you’ve been out of the team for so long you’re due a little bit of luck, so I’m grateful it fell back to me,” he said.
“The keeper did pull off a good save, so he’s probably a little bit annoyed, but when it landed back in the six yard box I was buzzing really as I knew if I go there it was going to go in, so I was happy.”
And on the first goalscorer, his former Barnsley strike partner Carlton Morris, Woodrow’s “he’s got everything” verdict is one that few would go against.
“Carlton’s been on fire this season, everything’s he’s touched has gone in which is great for him, but his goals have taken us into the position we are in the league, so long may it continue for him,” said Woodrow.
“When he came to Barnsley, he probably hadn’t played a lot of games in the Championship, but when he came in it was like ‘Wow, I can’t believe this guy has not sort of scored 20, 30 goals every single year!’
“Because of how good he was, his attributes and when he came to Barnsley, he was a massive impact to us getting to the play-offs.
“So it started from there, everything he touched went in, and when he got the move to Luton, with me, I was delighted as I knew he would be able to do that here.
“It’s been a time where he’s played every game, he’s been fit, he’s looked fit and he’s a great player and deserves all the goals he’s got this season.”
