The 19-year-old wore the captain's armband at Top Field and despite being disappointed with how the result ended up, admitted that the opportunity to play alongside experienced professionals is one he will savour.

"It was a really good experience for us younger lot to be honest. To step up into these games and not only get led by them, but take tips from them and then when we get into our games, whether that’s the younger lot with the youth team, or we don’t have any of the first team lot, we can take away some of their advice and just learn from them.

"You learn from any little thing, even one bit of communication can do so much for us, so it’s really good experience and one we treasure.

"They’ve got massive experience, they’re older than us, looking up it can be quite nerve wracking for some of us, but those boys are top. They always look at us and count us as one of them, so when we get into those games, they don’t see any difference to a first team game, which is credit to them as they conduct themselves really well."

Having training with the senior professionals recently, it has only boosted Pettit's hopes of being involved on a regular occurance in the not so distant future.

“That’s one of the reasons why I signed at this football club, because you see a pathway, because you see a pathway you need to try and progress and break in and be the next James Justin, the likes of them, so it’s all about kicking on from now, trying to train with the first team every day, pushing on from there, and just take every day as it comes.”
