ANDREW SHINNIE | "IT'S ABOUT TIME I SCORED"

The Hatters bounced back to winning ways on Saturday after Andrew Shinnie's low drive at the near post was enough to keep the Town's unbeaten start at Kenilworth Road intact as they defeated Bristol Rovers.

The Scotsman, who has now made just over 40 appearances in a Town shirt, was delighted to find the back of the net for the first time in almost a year.

He is hoping to build on his strong start to the season and push on for the rest of the Sky Bet League One campaign.

He told iFollow Hatters: "It's about time I scored. I should be adding more goals really because I know I've got the ability to do it, I should have probably been a bit more selfish at times, but I'm glad to get off the mark. We played well to be fair, we dominated the game, it's just about getting the first goal, so it was just a relief really when it hit the net.

"That's what has killed us a bit this season, not getting in the lead in games because if we get the lead we're really never going to lose, but they were blocking everything, the keeper was saving it."

The 29-year-old – who signed on a permanent basis in the summer from Birmingham City after a successful loan spell last season – has a lot of faith in the Town's current group. The midfielder is extremely confident in the squad's ability and hopes that the Hatters' training sessions will soon begin to improve the team in front of goal.

He continued: "It should have been more, that's what we're working on in training, just the clinical edge because we're ripping teams apart really.

"I'm not being arrogant, but we work on that every day in training and it shows on the pitch. We've got a structure in the way we play and if we play like we do, especially in the first half, teams can't really live with us.

"It's just that finishing edge which is the hardest thing really in the game, putting the ball in the net so if we can put the build-up play and the goals together, we'll be some team.

"We should be keeping more clean sheets. We're giving stupid goals away, we've spoke about that. If we don't give those goals away we're going to win games because, in my opinion, we're one of the better teams in the league in the way we play and the way we work in training every day.

"If we can just keep the clean sheets, keep the goals out, we've got real good talent going forward. We'll break teams down, we've spoken about that, we know where we are. We've seen quite a good bit of the league now and we've not had to fear really. If we can keep playing the way we can, we'll have a chance."

Shinnie hasn't allowed an element of frustration about game time to creep in either, having started four out of the Town's eight league games so far this campaign.

He added: "I want to play as much as I can, I managed to get into the team this week but it's weird how football works. I work hard, I work as hard as I can, so hopefully I can push on from here now and keep playing well.

"It can be tough at times, I'm not going to lie. Nobody wants to be on the bench and not involved, you just want to be playing especially when you're working hard in training and you feel you can add something to the team. I was a bit disappointed last week that I didn't manage to feature at all but luckily, I've got in the starting eleven this week and I've managed to get on the scoresheet and win the match."
