Allan Campbell reveals hopes to progess into Scotland's senior squad!

New signing Allan Campbell revealed that breaking into the Scotland first team is a feat he hopes to achieve after becoming Luton’s third summer signing.

The 22-year-old arrived from Motherwell and comes with plenty of experience at a young age, including international pedigree.

Campbell has made 24 appearances for Scotland’s U21 side, the third highest of any Scotsman at that age group behind Christian Dailly and Steven Pressley, so naturally the aim is now to progress into the senior squad sooner rather than later.

“I got a taste of the 21s and once you get over that age then you strive to get into the men’s squad. Seeing the Scotland fans and the buzz about the Euro’s, you have a real bit in your belly to try and be there and hopefully I can come here, perform well and try and get in the manager’s eye.”

Adjustment to the English game isn’t always guaranteed but Campbell is looking to follow in the footsteps of Scots who have also made the switch from the Scottish Premiership to England.

"I am coming down to work as hard as I can, and I’m going to try and give everything I can to be successful. Those guys like Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney have come down and done really well, you see them now on the highest stage doing really well and that is the goal to strive for."

The pair are currently involved in Euro 2020 and continuing, the midfielder said: “I think it shows that if you do well here, show them what you can do, then international teams will come and you will get the chance to make that step. I think for me, that is the target. If I do well then, I want to try and get in the managers thoughts.”

Assistant Manager Mick Harford has the same ambition for the youngster, who said this on yesterday’s Transfer Club zoom: "Hopefully we will develop him and make him better and hopefully he can go on and make the next step.

“My ambition for Allan is hopefully get him into the Scotland squad, get some Scotland caps and progress. Hopefully his career carries on the way it has been.

"Seeing his character, the way he is and the way he holds himself, he is going to have a good career and hopefully with the environment we have at this football club, that can happen.”
