The Irishman has made 21 appearances this season, although only eight – four in the league and four in the cups – have been from the start of a match. He will miss out on the action tomorrow through the achilles injury he picked up at Accrington a fortnight ago.
Despite this, the 32-year-old has played a crucial role in keeping the squad together off the field, while helping Mick Harford and the coaching staff with his input from the bench – not to mention some match-winning and saving cameo sub appearances, with his set piece deliveries earning a win at tomorrow's opponents Oxford and a point at Walsall in the final game of 2018.
Speaking to the media at The Brache yesterday, he said: "I am captain of the club and there is a huge responsibility for me. When I was made captain I said I would do everything I could to take this club forward, and right now – I'm getting a bit emotional – right now it's the pinnacle of my career leading this unbelievable club to the Championship. It's just incredible and a very proud moment for me."
