The 40-year-old, who helped the Town to win back-to-back promotions as a player, heads to East London as first team coach to assist O’s manager Richie Wellens.

Macca joined the Hatters as a player from Brentford in the summer of 2017, winning promotion from League Two and League One in successive seasons before moving on to Northampton in 2019.

The Irishman returned to Kenilworth Road in 2021 to coach in the academy, initially with the Under-13s up to development squad, then moving up to Under-18s head coach in 2022/23, adding to an impressive CV by masterminding EFL Youth Alliance South-East Division and Merit Youth League 1 title successes.

He returned to the senior coaching staff as a set piece coach at the start of last season and has now decided to swap Kenilworth Road for Brisbane Road ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

Everyone associated with Luton Town would like to thank Macca for his service on and off the pitch for the Hatters and wish him the very best of luck with Orient.
